Faculty/Staff: Wired Internet Connection - Personal Device
This article walks you through preparing and registering your personal device (Mac, Windows, or Chromebook) on the Clark University network.
Prerequisites
Before you start
Complete both steps below before bringing your device to campus.
Step 1: Update your operating system
MacOS 12 or lower
Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.
Select About This Mac.
Click Software Update.
If you see "Other updates are available," click More Info.
Install all available operating system updates.
Restart your computer.
Repeat until no additional updates are available.
MacOS 13 or higher
Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.
Select System Settings.
If updates are available, click Software Update Available at the top of the left pane.
Click Update Now in the Updates Available section.
Agree to the licensing terms and conditions.
Wait for the update to download. Your computer will restart automatically.
Windows
Open the Start menu by clicking the Windows icon at the bottom of your screen.
Click the gear icon to open Settings.
Select Update & Security.
Click Check for updates.
Apply all available updates.
Restart your computer.
Repeat until the button reads You're up to date.
Step 2: Install or update antivirus software
Clark University provides Sophos antivirus free of charge to all members of the Clark community. If you already have a paid antivirus program, fully update it before proceeding.
MacOS and Windows
Open a web browser.

Follow the instructions on the page:
Receive your unique registration link.
Create a Sophos Home account.
Download and install Sophos using the step-by-step instructions for your operating system linked on the page.
Connect your device on campus
Connect your device to a network port (wall jack) using an Ethernet cable.
Launch a web browser and follow the registration steps for your device type below.
Register your device
Chromebook
Click Continue to Device Registration.
Log in with your Clark account.

Enter a descriptive nickname for your device.
Check the box to confirm you have read and agree to Clark's Appropriate Use policy.
Click Register, then click OK.
Mac

When connected, a pop-up window will appear with a link to Continue to Device Registration.
Click Continue to Device Registration (or I have a Clark Account). If prompted, click Allow.
Log in with your Clark account.
Click Step 1. Download ClearPass OnGuard Agent. If prompted, read the instructions and click OK.

Open your Downloads folder and double-click the downloaded file to open it.
Click OK.
Click the Apple logo and open System Preferences (MacOS 12 or lower) or System Settings (MacOS 13 or higher).
Click Security & Privacy.
Click Open Anyway.
Enter your computer credentials when prompted. ClearPass OnGuard will begin to install.
Follow all remaining prompts to complete installation, entering your credentials again if asked.
Run the system check
Return to your browser and click Step 2. Launch ClearPass. If prompted, click OK.
ClearPass OnGuard will verify that your operating system and antivirus software are up to date.

The page will reload and show whether your device passed.
Enter a descriptive nickname for your device (example: MacBook Pro 2025).
Check the box to confirm you have read and agree to the Appropriate Use policy.
Click Register, then click OK.
Windows

When connected, a pop-up window will appear with a link to Continue to Device Registration.
Click Continue to Device Registration.
Log in with your Clark account credentials (full email address and password).
Click Step 1. Download ClearPass OnGuard Agent. If prompted, click OK.
Once the download is complete, click Step 2. Launch ClearPass. If prompted, allow your browser to open the application.

The page will reload and show whether your device passed the OS and antivirus check.
Enter a descriptive nickname for your device (example: EliteBook 800 Fall 25).
Check the box to confirm you have read and agree to the Appropriate Use policy.
Click Register, then click OK.
